PURPOSE AND USE
Filtration with Granular Anthracite is part of the techniques used for the reduction and elimination of suspended solids in the treatment of drinking water, industrial water, and wastewater. Dissolved substances and colloids cannot be systematically retained but must undergo pretreatment to be transformed into filterable materials. The exceptional filtering action of anthracite is due to the irregular shape of the grains that form intergranular voids, allowing for high filtration speeds with low pressure losses and enabling large amounts of impurities to deposit.

The overlapping of different layers of anthracite with varying granulometry allows the retention of solid materials of different sizes on each layer. This implements the system of so-called multi-layer filtration, where the retention capacity is much larger compared to single-layer filters, and the increase in pressure losses is much slower, allowing for long filter operating times.
